Andromeda

I followed him and his dream to go and live on a Trawler, she was called Andromeda and she stole his heart.
This song is well overdue but has been cathartic for me. (true story)

  1. ANDROMEDA

WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE
THIS LOVE WAS BOUND TO FAIL
NOW MY HEART IS A SETTING SUN
AND I’M ADRIFT WITHOUT A SAIL
WHEN DAWN BREAKS TOMORROW I WILL BE WELL UNDERWAY
DANCING WITH THE FLOTSAM IN THE WAVES

A BEAUTIFUL LADY CALLED HIM FROM THE SEA
“I AM ANDROMEDA” SHE SAID “SAIL AWAY WITH ME”
SHE TOOK HIM SWIFTLY WITHOUT CONSCIENCE OR REGRET
AND ONLY I COULD SEE THAT SHE WAS REALLY JUST, A BROKEN WRECK

NOW THIS LOVE HAS RUN AGROUND
AND I’M HEADING FOR DISTANT SHORES
    I DON’T KNOW WHERE I AM BOUND
BUT I’VE SET A DIFFERENT COURSE
I WISH YOU FAIR WINDS AND FOLLOWING SEAS
I HOPE SHE’S EVERYTHING THAT I COULD NEVER BE.

A BEAUTIFUL LADY CALLED HIM FROM THE SEA
“I AM ANDROMEDA” SHE SAID “SAIL AWAY WITH ME”
SHE TOOK HIM SWIFTLY WITHOUT CONSCIENCE OR REGRET
AND ONLY I COULD SEE THAT SHE WAS REALLY JUST, A BROKEN WRECK

  2. This is a great song, Ann. You can feel the emotion in your playing and singing. Your lyrics tell quite a personal story. As I like to say, we write what we know. Well done!

  3. Another fantastic song well performed Ann. I don’t think anyone could fail to follow Andromeda. You have a powerful vocal with a great range and lovely guitar work

  4. Superb! Very cleverly constructed song – the words are economical but perfectly chosen, and you haven’t overdone the nautical references. Great performance too, in a style that could have fitted the ‘country’ theme last month. I love this!

  5. Thanks to everyone for their kind comments.
I am trying my best to listen and comment on everyone’s entries on here too.
With this song I didn’t want to overdo the nautical references, there really wasn’t a need, country ballad is my default style, and this is really a sad love song, from my point of view and his.
Sometimes less is more, I will often over think a song so I am pleased I left this one as is.

  6. I loved your ‘in yer face’ country song last month, but while this song is still ballsy, it shows a different more sensitive side to your writing. Your voice is still very country though (thankfully!) . Well done, again.

  7. I echo the remarks about your voice being “Country”. Great lyrics telling a great story and some excellent guitar too. I love that chord progression before “Beautiful lady” and the way the song swells like the sea.

  8. Another fab song Ann. I did a little searching and found a reference to Andromeda in Fleetwood on Facebook which was an interesting find. I’m really fascinated that you lived on a boat! Really enjoyed both your song and performance.

  9. As I mentioned on Facebook, Ann, this is a fabulous song, and I doubt any recording could match you performing it live. The fact it’s rooted firmly in your own experience makes it even more special. Some of the songs this month have really touched my heart & yours is one of them. Thank you. Xx
