All You Can Do

Thanks to John Davies for setting the #comfortdisturbchallenge this month. I’ve allowed circumstances to drain me over the last few months and these challenges always help provide a focus. I’ve written a new song for the challenge and remembered a song I wrote in a Talent Is Timeless songwriting workshop which I’ll post in a little while too as a “catalogue” submission. Both songs have comforted and encouraged me as I’ve written and sung them. Nothing fancy, as usual.

V1
When the blue eyes that once promised summer
Now threaten with thunder & rain
And the slam of a door
Breaks the deafening silence again.
When sighs replace smiles & laughter
And unspoken words fill the air,
Hearts ache to be heard
But no one is ready to hear…

CHORUS
All that you can do, all that you can do is love x2
When the path ahead of you
Isn’t wide enough for two
All you can do, all you can do is love

V2
When the bright eyes that once shone with starlight
Show less of the life that’s within,
Shadows grow longer
As the lamps along the pathway grow dim.
When it feels that your worlds are dividing,
You’re not sure even love is enough
But you stretch out your hand
And hope tenderness speaks through a touch.

CHORUS
All that you can do, all that you can do is love x2
When the path ahead of you
Isn’t wide enough for two
All you can do, all you can do is love.
