All You Can Do
Thanks to John Davies for setting the #comfortdisturbchallenge this month. I’ve allowed circumstances to drain me over the last few months and these challenges always help provide a focus. I’ve written a new song for the challenge and remembered a song I wrote in a Talent Is Timeless songwriting workshop which I’ll post in a little while too as a “catalogue” submission. Both songs have comforted and encouraged me as I’ve written and sung them. Nothing fancy, as usual.
V1
When the blue eyes that once promised summer
Now threaten with thunder & rain
And the slam of a door
Breaks the deafening silence again.
When sighs replace smiles & laughter
And unspoken words fill the air,
Hearts ache to be heard
But no one is ready to hear…
CHORUS
All that you can do, all that you can do is love x2
When the path ahead of you
Isn’t wide enough for two
All you can do, all you can do is love
V2
When the bright eyes that once shone with starlight
Show less of the life that’s within,
Shadows grow longer
As the lamps along the pathway grow dim.
When it feels that your worlds are dividing,
You’re not sure even love is enough
But you stretch out your hand
And hope tenderness speaks through a touch.
CHORUS
All that you can do, all that you can do is love x2
When the path ahead of you
Isn’t wide enough for two
All you can do, all you can do is love.
Another beautiful song Suzanne 👏👏👏
Hi lovely person, superb song and loving the way the chords change the mood throughout. And yes agreed, all you can do is love.
Glad you did one this month always enjoy them. Thanks for the kind words also 😁✌️🌻☮️
Beautiful song Suzanne. Some interesting chord sequences. Well constructed.
Absolutely beautiful, Suzanne. Lovely folky melody and chord progression, and superb singing (as ever), expressing that sentiment so well.
A very beautiful song.
Beautiful Suzanne I love the lyric ‘When the path ahead of you Isn’t wide enough for two All you can do, is love. Lovely guitar work weaving through the lyric. Top stuff
This resonates deeply with me. Thank you Suzanne.
This is a gorgeous song, you have a wonderful way with words. I’m glad that writing this song has given you some comfort and encouragement – I’m sure it will also help other people who hear it 🎶
Loved it from the first note. Great vocal as always. Some lovely chords floating behind the tune. Probably my favourite this month.
Just beautiful Suzanne and it certainly fills the brief of comforting. The line about the path not being wide enough for two got me!
This one works really well – something about it is both simple and complex at the same time…I like that.
Wonderful song Suzanne, musically top class and I am sure that everyone at some point in their lives can relate to the heartbreaking lyrics.
A lovely song that Suzanne… and a lovely voice too
A beautiful sentiment and a beautiful performance Suzanne. I’m also fond of that F#m to B7 change.
Another great song Suzanne. Loving that drop into C and open D toward the end of the chorus.
Great heartfelt lyrics beautifully delivered as always. Lovely guitar work the perfect accompaniment
Beautiful song Suzanne.
Beautiful as ever Suzanne. A very comforting song and lyrics.
