Description
My father is 94 years old with Alzheimers, and I found myself reflecting on my fathers life. He in his younger years as I was growing up never said much about his early life in Tyler, Texas, but as he started aging I realized that he from time to time divulged little tidbits of what his life was like. This song is a story about his life, and gives the listeners those tidbits of what his life may have been like.
Bio
Lyrics
Whiskey and Rye
Verse-
Don’t know how you made it in the early days dad, just a child on your own but you made it through. An’ you kept the memories in your head you shared it with me and I’m sharin’ it with you, and you came through
( Anticipating, patiently waiting)
Chorus-
It was Whiskey and Rye it was time after time and I know you know that we love you dad, it was Whiskey and Rye so have a good cry ( have a good cry) and I know (I know) because I know ( cause I know)
Verse 2-
Just a small time boy on his own coming out of Tyler Texas all alone, and they would lay their money down, they were wearing a frown, and I know you know, cuz I know
(Anticipating) Anticipating
( patiently waiting)
Chorus-
It was Whiskey and Rye so have a good time and I know that you know, it was Whiskey and Rye so have a good cry ( have a good cry) and I know you know, cause you know I know
(Anticipating, patiently waiting)
Verse( Spoken word layer underneath-see below)-
He grew up with the drama of trying to protect his Mama, now he on the road again, you know, and like that river he’s a rollin’ he don’t know where it’s going, it’s just goin’ and goin’, and going, and going.
So have a good cry, pourin’ Whiskey and Rye , you know I know.
Spoken Word-
Don’t know how you made it in those early days just a child of 14 on your own, must have been harder than we know.
We love you cuz you kept those memories though. That hurt- you kept locked inside, a chance we could have a better life.
Now that years have past by, you can’t tell us what hurts inside. That pains us, makes us feel helpless. It’s been harder than You know. We Love you, we’re doing the best we can, because you were , and are that man. You’re our Dad.
