Description

Sally Davies and I wrote the lyrics and I wrote the music in around 1990. Whilst Sally gave up music shortly afterwards (I have contact details) I continued to play it live, singing it myself. In around 2001 I re-wrote the song to include the bridge, and the arrangement here was developed for my current duet singer, Tracy Bridges. Often requested, this is one of my most popular songs live.

Bio

Lyrics

Come with me my bonnie boy
Down to the waters edge
I’ll show you where your Daddy left
More than a year ago
You were just a babe in arms
When he said goodbye
It nearly broke my heart in two
There were tears in his eyes

A peaceful man at heart he was
But still he had to go
The government said now is your chance
To play at a hero
‘Cause we need men like you to fight
And sail away from home
So you and me my bonnie boy
We are left alone

Come with me my bonnie boy
Down to the waters edge
Come with me my bonnie boy
Down to the waters edge

And I am wishing you are here tonight
Holding and comforting me
I am dreaming you’re flying over the sea
To the arms of your baby
Your baby
Your baby and me

I bring you down here every day
To look out on the sea
In the hope that it will bring
Your daddy back to me
Though he walks these shores no more
He’s still a part of me
And when I look into you eyes
It’s him that I see

Come with me my bonnie boy
Down to the waters edge
Come with me my bonnie boy
Down to the waters edge
Come with me my bonnie boy
Down to the waters edge
Come with me my bonnie boy
Down to the waters edge
