2025 Competition Entry:

Walk The Rain by The Retro Shift

Genre

Rock

Co-writer(s)

no

Performer(s)

Scott Palmer (Me) concocted this thing soup to nuts in my home studio using Logic Pro, lots of guitars/basses and programming the logic drummer to suite the track and feed me the time signature changes via click track with the tempo arranger. I also do the vocals through an SM7B mic.

Description

I was having a lot of problems with my career that were causing a lot of stress. It was raining out and it was a particularly bad day at work and I just flew out there door and went for a walk. It was a heavy spring rain and it got me to thinking about the idea of this song. I wrote the music and then crafted the lyrics to the music.

Bio

The Retro Shift is from the mind of Scott Palmer, a multi-talented musician and songwriter. Drawing inspiration from classic hits played at local cover shows, Scott crafts original music that transcends genres and eras, blending elements of rock, pop, blues, funk, and soul into a unique sonic tapestry.

You can find Scott playing solo acoustic sets every 2nd Saturday at Chillax in St. Peter’s Missouri.

Lyrics

It’s a epic kind of rainy day
Mind’s backed up and feeling grey
Water falling down around
Drowning out the noise that’s found (In my head)

Time to walk the rain
Time to walk the rain

Trying to calm it down inside my head
Sort it out find a way ahead
Make a change and rearrange
Walking talking being strange

Time to walk the rain
Time to walk the rain

I know
Troubles man come and they go
Heavy on my heart
Get on with life make a new start
I wanna live without it

I know
Troubles man come and they go
Heavy on my heart
Get on with life make a new start
I wanna live without it
