Description
Like many others, I experienced intense emotions during the pandemic. Everyone responded differently. As a South African living in the UK, it was complicated for us to see our children in South Africa, and both governments contributed to a lot of stress around travel eligibility and timings. Our first grandchild was born during this time. The song helped me process my emotions and hopefully encourage Christian listeners in my sphere of influence.
Bio
Elize Swart is a piano teacher and creator of a step-by-step online beginner piano course. She’s also a singer-songwriter, storyteller, blogger, and Christian mentor, sharing her heart through music and words.
Lyrics
Twenty-twenty sounds good to the ear
The end of a decade and a promising year
But a deadly new virus transpires
And the rumours become the headlines – oh, so soon
Politicians scurry, and scientists hurry
Shortly, the streets lay bare
And shops are oddly abandoned
Our vision momentarily dimmed by the frenzy
The statistics surge and the hospitals struggle
Rob, a dear husband dies
While Sue is anxiously waiting
Ear close to the phone she breaks down, her life tumbling
Circumstances may look bleak
God is high above it all
Stop the despair
Stir up the faith
Baby photos stir up emotions
First grandchild, Rosy, sweet
And first-time parents are far off
The longing to be close together hurt so much
Close-knit families are sad
Separated by the law
God has not changed
Keep trusting Him
Love so amazing, grace so unfailing
Gives us a reason to live
God invites You and I
To be His very own
He is my Unshaken Hope
Come now, dear friend, He knows your name
He will love you until the end
So, you may have unshaken hope
Jesus, my unshaken hope
Jesus, our unshaken hope!
