Description

The only story about this song is not so much about the song and what it actually means, but more about the person, Joanne, who wrote the lyrics. Shortly after we finished producing the song Joanne passed away from breast cancer. It’s hard to listen to the song and not think of her. That is really what the song means to me and , in a sense, the song is about how nothing really last as long as we would hope for it to last.

Lyrics

The gypsies were dancing last night in my dreams
A voodoo witch woman was winking at me
I go under
A spell she has cast
When I’m feeling this good
It’s too bad it never will last

Now Venus is rising from out of the surf
The goat boy is grinning, he loves that I’m cursed
I surrender
A little too fast
When I’m feeling this good
It’s too bad it never will last

Bridge:
No it never, no it never, no it never lasts long
It blows a kiss and then it’s gone
Still I stay awake til dawn
Listening for that siren’s song

I wonder if Michael the Angel looks down
Upon this creation and laughs right out loud
I got questions
I don’t want to ask
When I’m feeling this good
It’s too bad it never will last

Let’s fly up to heaven, let’s slide down to hell
I see the fire, I hear the bell
You’re the driver
I’m the wheel rolling past
When I’m feeling this good
It’s too bad it never will last
