Description

Originally the song was just a poem written about a weekend in the Lake District with my partner Karen. The chorus I added while we were in our little summer house when we heard what sounded like thunder.
That’s when I thought about making the poem into a song.

I’d been listening to country/rock music like J.J. Cale’s Troubadour album. I like the way a lot of those songs just chug along with the bass and guitar riffs. Anyway what I came up with didn’t sound like anything by J.J Cale or any other music I’d been listening to.

So I hope you like it.

VERSE 1
As the birdsong fades to silence
The golden sunset lights your face
A shining path along the water
Like a road to another place

VERSE 2
Dreams of times in far off places
Build memories without end
Love and life combine in wondered
So hearts and souls can mend

CHORUS
It’s just the thunder
That made me cry
When you said goodbye
