Description
Our dad worked in the shipyards of Glasgow as a welder and this song was written in his memory. He would often come home with holes in his jumper and we always wondered why he didn’t catch fire..what happen to all the sparks when welding? After he died I wrote these lyrics. This arrangement features my daughter (his granddaughter) Sara on vocals.
Bio
Jaggy Edges are brothers Jim and Joe Graham. They have been playing together ever since Joe got a guitar for Christmas and Jim learned to play it (Joe never did). All the time Jim was learning guitar, they both played and harmonised in their bedroom creating, even then, a sound that sometimes only siblings can create. They finally got together with another pair of brothers, Iain and Colin McCaig to form the band October performing around Glasgow from1976 – 1980 whilst Joe and Iain attended Glasgow School of Art.
In all the years they have been writing and performing together, they have attempted to bring their songs to life for others to hear, enjoy and hopefully perform for themselves. “We have never really got round to doing it properly until now. We owe a lot to Colin and Iain McCaig for setting us on the road back then. (Don’t think the band has broken up yet though!)”

Lyrics
A spark of recognition burned a hole right through my clothes
Passing through the chambers of my heart
It flew into my mind and out the other side
Barely pausing long enough to hurt
Your sense of salvation never cut much ice with me
But I’m hoping that it cut some ice for you
Always so definite it might have helped to bend a bit
To try and see that other point of view
Frozen at the point of last opinions, it’s funny how we saw things differently
The sparks that flew
Around and about you
Had to land somewhere
They lit the fire in everyone of us
Standing close enough to catch them in the air
A jolt of desperation sent a shiver right through me
I wasn’t there to see you leave
Now I’m confined to keep you in my mind
Passing even more infrequently
Time might decide to fade a memory but I wouldn’t mind holding on
The sparks that flew
Around and about you
Had to land somewhere
They lit the fire in everyone of us
Standing close enough to catch them in the air
A spark of recognition burned a hole right through my day
Barely pausing long enough to hurt
Passing through the chambers of my heart
It flew into my mind and out the other side
Barely pausing long enough to hurt
Your sense of salvation never cut much ice with me
But I’m hoping that it cut some ice for you
