I wrote and recorded the song at home, arranging all the instruments myself. I submitted the MIDI files to a sound engineer who did the final mixing and mapped the MIDI to recorded sounds. He preferred to stay anonymous due to the nature of the song. Unfortunately, the Xylophone is off-pitch toward the end. It was not my intention. I may re-record it in the future.
Description
I was haunted by the ongoing war in Ukraine and wanted to capture the early development of the conflict in a song. My aim was to encourage Ukrainians and Western Christians to pray and process what is happening. Writing a song helped me to process it.

Lyrics
The Face of War
The architect designed with all his heart
It would be a landmark standing for years
The foundations were so carefully laid
and it rose,
brick by brick
but
In a moment,
it has crumbled
Such is the face of war
The world watches in bewilderment and horror
Hearing bombs explode with thunderous contempt
Seeing families flee, faces marred by shock
rushing wide-eyed children
Praying wordless groans in terror
Such is the face of war
Some say, how can God allow all of this
Some say, God is in control
Some say, there is no God
Some say, I don’t know
If God exists- Oh He does! –
then I am not in control
God exists – Yes, He does –
and He is my refuge
How do I make sense of it all?
I can’t see a way out
But turning to God in my distress,
quiets my soul
Wars, rumours of war, droughts and floods
Disaster and calamity
None of these can separate us
from the love of God
How do I make sense of it all?
God surely knows my questions
He longs for His children close to Him
Let Him be the answer
In the face of war, I turn to You
In the face of war, You comfort me
In the face of war, You lead me
In the face of war, You love me
The architect designed with all his heart
It would be a landmark standing for years
The foundations were so carefully laid
and it rose,

but

it has crumbled
