Description

I wrote the first version of this song when I was 20- it was about someone in my life who had depression. Over the years, I have performed this song with different bands and improved on the lyrics but the melody and the chorus always stayed the same for 33 years! I’d like to think that, whilst the song is very melancholic, it has a glimpse of hope. In any case, it’s probably more observational on someone’s state of mind and trying to relate.

September Song

Verse l

You can hear the rain playing, a melancholy tune against your window
It keeps you awake like so many nights before, turning your heart indigo.

You know I realised something sometime ago, some ways you’re exactly like me
But you’re in love with the blues like you never wanna let it leave,
It’s engraved in your silvery spoon.

These seasons in the rain you spent coz you lost the other ones on the way

Chorus:
Oh, September songs are waiting for you in your room
You say you could never really want them, you could never really miss them, but when they go you always do.
I know to live your life, and to love your life, is not always so easy, when the rain keeps on falling on your hair time after time

Verse ll

Raindrops keep on falling down, one by one you see them hit the ground
And the beating of your restless heart, is the only living sound
There’s a star and the moon and an aeroplane, in the black soon-to-be autumn sky
And it makes you feel like crying those heavy, heavy tears
But everything’s alright, don’t you cry

These seasons in the rain you spent coz you lost the other ones on the way.

Repeat chorus
