Description

The idea started with a quote from a Bill Gates commencement address: Life is not a one act play. Also, my wife of 40+ years turned me down the first time I asked her to marry me.

Bio

I’m a former copywriter who got hooked on writing songs during COVID. Thanks to the great teachers at the Old Town School of Folk Music and all associated with Nashville Songwriters for their continued guidance. If you’re an artist, hear something you like, and wish to collaborate, please contact me: [email protected]. Best, Mack

Lyrics

Second Chances

V1
If I could put my life on rewind
Roll it back a few times
Talk some sense to younger me
I’d say your road is winding
It takes some time to find it
Don’t give up too easily

V2
That girl you love in tenth grade
Red hair tied in French braids
Best thing that happens to you
One foolish night will blow it
And you never quite get over
That self-inflicted wound (But…)

CHORUS
Life gives you second chances
And time to make amends
You won’t always have answers
Or know the story’s end
Get on your knees at bedtime
Wake up and seize each day
You’ll get second chances
Life is not a one-act play

V3
When coach cuts you from baseball
Got nothin’ left to live for
You’ll pick up Dad’s guitar
You have no way of knowin’
Just where you both be goin’
That you’ll ever come this far

V4
That hotel gig in Memphis
Spot a girl at breakfast
Red hair with a touch of grey
You ask to buy her coffee
You two get to talkin’
(Pause) She’s with you to this day

CHORUS – OUT
