V1

On days like this
with a storm bearing down,
memories of you
fill up the room
with familiar sounds.

As the rain starts to fall,
I turn off the world
as the wind and the rain
like the guilt and the shame
slowly unfurl.

We spoke before you died
Daddy did I say enough?
could ya tell how proud I was to be your son?
Like a storm, it hits
on days like this.

On a day like this
we laid you down.
The rain was falling,
the past was calling
me out.

The rifles blazed
and the bugle played,
I held my salute
through the saddest tune
God ever made.

We never said goodbye,
I was 300 miles away.
I’d give the rest of my life for one more day
and talk a bit,
on a day like this.

On days like this
and the storm is gone,
the guilt and the pain,
like the wind and the rain
move slowly along.

When the days at an end
and the night closes in,
I’ll dream of the day
the lord takes me away
and I’ll see you again.

But while I’m here, alone
and your a million stars away
your memory fills my soul
each and every day,
but it really hits
on days like this.
