Description

Myself and Chris started writing an original song ‘Oh God!’ 35yrs ago… Separated by continents and lost touch until 2015 when we started writing again. He sent me the completed song idea and I immediately heard where Paul Rodgers could bring something amazing to this song.

I sampled his voice from the 1974 Bad Company song ‘Seagull’ to create the duet on our song. I sent it to Paul Rodgers management company who, incredibly, replied to me.

Paul heard it, loved it and gave it his blessing. Then ensued the last 10 years of the business of gaining publishing and master rights to use Paul’s voice. I’m delighted to say that the long struggle was worth it and in Sept ’24 we received confirmation of all the approvals needed to release.

This is the first song Chris and I have ever thought of releasing and plan to do it in the Spring of ’25.

Would really appreciate feedback from the judges. Many thanks for listening.

Bio

Lyrics

”Oh God!”

Oh God! no cried the sailor, as his ship went down
No magic hand came down to save him
And there and then, he drowned.

Oh mercy no! cried the prisoner, as his sentance passed the crowd
Nothing clement came down to save him
And his cries were his last sound

Oh for heaven’s sake, carry me away above the clouds for heaven’s sake
Away from all that has let me down, or happens by mistake
Oh for heaven’s sake don’t mention the divine
Well I don’t want no false hope, or a saviour that’s never here in time
Here in time..

Oh Lord no! cried the mother, holding her broken son
No miracles were forthcoming
There another final breath was drawn

Oh Mummy! cried the little girl, when will Daddy come home
Mummy let her eyes do the talking
Helpless and frghtened and all alone

Oh for heaven’s sake, carry me away above the clouds for heaven’s sake
Away from all that has let me down, or happens by mistake
Oh for heaven’s sake don’t mention the divine
Well I don’t want no false hope, or a saviour that’s never here in time

Here in time.. it’s where you are going, here in time
Here in time,
Seagull! Go on and fly away
Fly to your tomorrow
Lead me to my sorrow, through the sky
The shape of things to come – shoot you down
You fly!
The shape of things to come, asking why..
Through the sky
The shape of things to come
Asking why
The shape of things to come
Too much sorrow
