Description
Felt old, gave up any hope of any musical achievement, slapped myself in the face and wrote this little ditty.
Bio
Born in London 1971. In 1976 my dad introduced me to The Beatles music, cut me out a cardboard guitar shape and spent the next 4 years in front of the mirror, pretending to be John Lennon. Got my first guitar at 12, formed a group with 2 school friends, wrote my first piece of music and entered it into a talent competition on Saturday Superstore, judged by Steve Levine and came 2nd. Carried on being John Lennon in the mirror for a bit, formed another school band playing 80’s music with 80’s hair. Joined a proper band at 16 on the bass, toured the UK and East Germany just after the wall came down. Took a breather from John Lennon in the mirror. Released a 7” vinyl single and 3 albums into the indie charts. Broke up 5 years and returned to the mirror. Formed various bands ever since playing bass, drums, guitar and vocals. Got married, had a daughter, got divorced, got married again, got old and realised I was never going to be John Lennon, so dusted off the mirror and tried Ringo for a while. My current wife pointed out I didn’t have what it takes to be Ringo either and sent me the link to Timeless Talent. The mirror is now in storage.
Lyrics
It was always on the cards,
But I spent an age just waiting
For it all to come to me,
I wasted all those years,
Mostly loving, sometimes hating,
Never doubting it would be.
Chorus;
Were my hopes hopelessly false?
Should I take a different course?
Were my expectations far too great?
It’s never too late.
Slowly, slowly so it goes,
It’s the story of my lifetime,
But the time is running out,
Virtually comatose,
I want to thank you for the wake up,
You took away the doubt.
Middle 8
Try to focus on the dream,
Try to find some self esteem,
You can do it if you try,
Raise your hand and touch the sky.
Chorus
But I spent an age just waiting

Mostly loving, sometimes hating,

Love it. Great beatlesque vibe.
Thank you Tom. That means a lot. Confidence in myself is pretty non existent.
This is very cool my fellow GenX’r! I really enjoyed the switch up melody & rhythm in bridge!
Awww I love that you were John Lennon in the mirror! I was Freddy, Annie & Bowie. I miss those days!
It’s never too late,, beautiful!
That’s very sweet of you, thank you so much Heidi. I’ve always had the comfort blanket of a band around me, so going it alone scares the crap out of me 😃
I entered a Freddie Mercury look alike comp once (photographic evidence available)
I had the full Live Aid gear and teeth. A nine year old boy was in the final with me, so I had to relinquish my prize.
Anyway, I’m waffling.
Love your reply, Love your song….
See you in the finals! ❤️
