Description
My grandmother survived many trials in her life, but she always found solace in country/bluegrass music. I was an 80’s hair band kid and rejected the country genre in my youth. As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to embrace my roots. I wrote this song to honor my grandmother, who always cheered me on even if I was playing hair band music. She always made me feel like a superstar. She passed away almost 20 years ago, but she’s still with me today.

MY OLD GUITAR
1. In the way back woods where the roads don’t go
Way past the dead cars and stereos
Lawn chairs circle round the big bonfire
Where she used to sing and dance to my old guitar
2. In those woods the cell phone won’t work
No WIFI just boots covered with dirt
Lit by the fire and the moon and stars
Where she used to sing and dance to my old guitar
Cho. I can’t say I’ve got much to whine about
I’m blessed and content with how it all turned out
When the breeze is right and the sky is clear
My mind goes back to yesteryear
And I feel her love deep inside my heart
From when she used to sing and dance to my old guitar
3. She had always been there for me
Whenever I played, there she’d be
Always made me feel like a superstar
When she used to sing and dance to my old guitar
4. Even as the years went by
She always had that spark in her eyes
She’s with Jesus now, but she’s not so far
That she can’t sing and dance to my old guitar
Cho. I can’t say I’ve got much to whine about
I’m blessed and content with how it all turned out
When the breeze is right and the sky is clear
My mind goes back to yesteryear
And I feel her love deep inside my heart
From when she used to sing and dance to my old guitar
5. Time heals wounds that’s what they say
And I’m better today than I was yesterday
But on a clear night I dream beyond the stars
To where she used to sing and dance to my old guitar
