Performer(s)

I sang, played guitars and bass, and did percussion on this song. It was recorded in my home studio, using Cubase 13 Pro software.

Description

I came across an old Life Magazine cover story and article about the Apollo space program, and felt inspired to write a song about it. I love the intrepid spirit of it all, with the limited technology, the incredible dangers faced by the astronauts.

Lyrics

Lyrics:

Mountains of the Moon

Across the plains of Hadley,
across the Descartes highlands,
our hearts were beating madly,
out on that rocky island…

Driving on the moon,
the mountains of the moon.
We didn’t make it to Mars,
but we drove our cars
on the mountains…mountains of the moon.

Left without a suitcase,
in a lonely rowboat.
Three days out in deep space,
I had a lump in my throat

The far side of the moon,
far side of the moon…
It was darker than hell,
and they wished us well,
’round the dark side,
far side of the moon…

(instrumental break)

Sailed the Sea of Tranquility,
walked upon Fra Mauro,
searched the Littrow Valley.
won’t be back tomorrow…

Driving on the moon
the mountains of the moon.
We didn’t make it to Mars,
but we left some scars
on the mountains…mountains of the moon
crazy mountains of the moon
ooh ooh ooh ooh
