Performer(s)

I wrote the song, and recorded it at Electric Bear Studios in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.
I performed the singing on the song, showed Joe (session musician) the full structure and chords. Joe played Bass, drums and guitar on the track. I wrote and sang the lyrics.

Description

The song was written about a man in his fifties who is struggling with his mental health and the stresses and strains of everyday life.
The man is visited by a version of his younger self in an apparition in a mirror. His younger self tells him to go easy on himself and not to worry about the future as everything will be alright.
The song is essentially meant to be positive and uplifting. Mental health is something which greatly effects people in their 50’s and beyond, and if I were to be successful in winning the competition I would make it my life long ambition to raise awareness of the serious problems which mental health can cause for individuals.
Thank you.

Bio

I started playing drums in bands in the 80’s and 90’s. In 2017 I self taught myself the Baritone Uke and Tenor guitar. I realised I could write songs and the rest will hopefully be history…..

Lyrics

Mirrors

Verse

Ooh, the sun came out today
But there’s something in my head that is telling me I’m bad and boy you’re going to have to pay.
Ooh. the chances that I’ve had
But 5the pushing and the shoving and the kicking and the pulling are a regular part of my day.

Bridge

A life worth living well
qqWithout this constant hell
A mind that heals itself
A cure for Mental Health.

Verse

Ooh, excuse me I have to leave
Cause the conversations dull and the people are a joke and there is little chance of reprieve.
Ooh, I’m sorry you feel that way, but instinct is a virtue and I’m getting peskythe impression that you don’t even hear what I say.

Bridge

Please don’t look at me
The pain is plain to see
I tried to tow the line
A life in sweet decline

Chorus

The boy I saw in the mirror
Is not the boy I see today
Reaching forward like a beacon of light
He still has something left to say Sorry if I let you down but the bar was far too high
Running and a jumping and a twisting and a turning I’ll be fighting until I die.

Guitar solo with Chorus chords

Bridge

Senses overload
My life was undersold
Please don’t pity me
I’ll rise just wait and see

Chorus x 2

playout with bridge chords
Look in the mirror
tell me what you see?

    1. Thanks very much Pete for your kind comments. To say it is John Lennon-ish is high praise indeed!
Your musical journey sounds most impressive from your bio, so it is great to receive feedback from an accomplished musician.
Is your entry under your own name Pete?
I shall give it a listen and get back to you.
      All the best
      John.

      1. Hi John,
Yes, I’ve got two songs on here under my name. Not the greatest quality I’m afraid. I’m a skint technophobe and used and old 4 track machine.
        Have you got any more?
        Cheers mate👍🏻
