Description
I walk every morning for exercise, and live near a shopping area. I see homeless persons every trip, and often give them money. One morning I saw a homeless couple – what I believe to be an elderly grandmother and her nearly-grown grandson I believe left in her care. They had slept out under the open sky, on cardboard hidden behind a hedge, next to a dumpster, and were just waking up- but I saw them… all their possessions in a shopping cart from Wal-Mart. That literally broke me… It broke my heart. I thought about it non-stop throughout the day. It is a very emotional song for me. While I was inanely pushing a shopping cart grocery shopping later that day, it reminded me of them – wondering how they ever got in the situation they were in – and the first verse popped into my head, full-blown. The song followed quickly the same day. I wondered if there was something I could do for them besides just give them money – could my talents make a difference for them? I wanted to express their viewpoint without judgement – the homeless veterans, runaway children, battered women – and the elderly who lost it all… People tend to look away from this, and they may look away from my song, too. I still don’t know the answer, but I had to try.

Lyrics
MAYBE SOMEDAY
Words and Music by Brian Holcomb ©2024
Car gave out on the way through Georgia
Left it steamin’ on the side of a clogged turnpike
Walked through the dry grass looking for shelter
Sun baked down it was hot on the 4th of July
Maybe someday I’ll get some money
Maybe someday I’ll get a job
Maybe someday I’ll have my own place
Maybe someday it won’t be so hard
Maybe someday I’ll find a lover
Maybe someday I won’t be alone
Maybe someday my life will change, and
Maybe someday I’ll remember who I used to…be
Bugs been bad where I been sleeping
Morning comes and I ain’t slept a wink
Went to a place they said was hiring
I been prayin’ to God that there’ll be an answer for me
Maybe someday I’ll get some money
Maybe someday I’ll get a job
Maybe someday I’ll have my own place
Maybe someday this pain will stop
Maybe someday I won’t be hungry
Maybe someday I won’t be all alone
Maybe someday my life will change, and
Maybe someday they’ll look and they’ll see…me
Maybe Someday…
