Description

For years my mother and I had had a contentious relationship. When she was diagnosed with a terminal illness, I wrote this song for her and about us … a song that was a plea: “It’s Time To Let It Go.”

Bio

I spent my entire career in broadcasting, a career split all but evenly between NBC News and the Discovery Channel. Now that I’m retired, I’m in the process of turning what had been an avocation – songwriting – into a vocation.

Lyrics

IT’S TIME TO LET IT GO

I sat down to tell you just how much I hate you,
But the words don’t seem to be coming.
A list of the wounds you passed on and inflicted,
When the clock on my life started running.

But there’s a reason there’s no rhyme.
It occurs to me it’s time,
It occurs to me it’s time to let it go.

You said you did your best and only now I believe it.
You said you’d never rest ‘til I was well.
I said you made this mess and now relieve it.
But it’s up to me to move on from this hell.

And there’s a reason why this song has gone
From blockage into flow.
It’s telling me it’s time to let it go.

I might say I wish things were different.
I might wish to turn back the page.
I might start the fight we both know all too well.
But it seems that certain things do come with age.

It’s a fork in the road
With a “yes” and a “no.”
And I say yes, it’s time to let it go.

So if we have forever or we only have today
Let’s stop living in the past
Because I’ve found a better way.
It’s not the same old circle from which we could never grow
It’s a sign that points to peace
That says it’s time to let it go.
