Description
My wife developed young onset dementia in her mid-fifties. This song is an expression of dementia’s effect on our lives, relationship and our lost future.

Lyrics
It Fades Away
Words and music by Phil Chapman
VERSE:
Wake up my darling it’s a brand new day
I’ve got a feeling things are going our way
A bright horizon makes the shadows flee
It’s all waiting there for you and me.
VERSE:
The morning offers up its warm embrace
The sky is cloudless. Hey lift up your face
Any destination’s good when we’re hand in hand
Let’s start our journey to the promised land
CHORUS:
Oh the years spread out before us like a field of rye
Swaying in the breeze of possibilities that we might try
[INSTRUMENTAL]
BRIDGE:
We’ve been growing stronger since our earliest days
Always faced the future as one
But we’re all at the mercy of the world and its ways
Even plans you carve in stone can still be undone
VERSE:
Get up my darling we’ve got things to do
We’ll stick together and we’ll see them through
Our days rush past us in a constant flow
We’ll hold tightly and we won’t let go
CHORUS A:
Oh the years spread out behind us in a sunset’s glow
Rose-tinted scenes before the final curtain call at the end of our show
CHORUS B:
Oh it’s hard to find your way when the twilight mist descends like a veil
But through it all somehow we’ll carry on, to the end of the day. We’ll prevail.
OUTRO:
Every waking moment building steadily to form one life-long yesterday, one golden reverie.
But it fades away
It fades away (repeat to coda)
