Description

According to legend, when he was a poor boy in Ohio, my father’s family came across money that was stolen by the Dilinger gang in Ohio, and left the next day and drove all the way to the Pacific Ocean. He lived a long adventurous life, and I was very close to him. All of the stories in the song are true. He was almost killed in a submarine attack, they lost huge money in a pyramid scheme, and in his old age he was injected with gold to fight his arthritis. He also smoked and laughed and told ridiculous stories.

Lyrics

Interplanetary Con Man

C E7 F Fmin
Robert found a gun and a bag of money in Ohio
C G/B Bb F/A Ab Bb C
And he went to the west and he did his best and he built himself a farm
C E7 F Ab Extra 2/4
Robert sold the farm for some oil in Carolina—–
C G/B Bb F/A Ab Bb C (E7)
And the money that he found from the Dillinger gang was stolen once again

Amin E7
Interplanetary con man, it wasn’t very nice of you
A B7 E7
To take him for a ride that went nowhere
F C E7 Amin
Now we’ll never see the sun the way he did when he was young. F C
Robert’s on the Run.

Somewhere in between, on a ship in the south Pacific
He took his leave for a couple of hours to get himself a beer
As he stumbled back he saw some smoke on the horizon
That’s the moment that he learned that the ship had burned to the
bottom of the sea

Interplanetary con man, it wasn’t very nice of you
To take him for a ride that went nowhere
Now we’ll never see the sun the way he did when he was young.
Robert’s on the Run.

Sometimes when a man becomes a man he starts forgetting
That if you run the fast, it just don’t last, they’re gonna take it all away
Sometimes late at night I see him smoking in the driveway
But when the Con’s that strong it won’t be long,
til they fill you full of gold

Interplanetary con man, it wasn’t very nice of you
To take him for a ride that went nowhere
Now we’ll never see the sun the way he did when he was young.
Robert’s on the Run.

  1. Just my humble opinion…shaped from two listens….a lot of fun. The melody is just shy of quirky and serves the lyrics very well. The lyrics tell the story in a straightforward but animated way. I could see the bag of money and the gun and Robert was lurking nearby….nice entry, G, good luck and enjoy this experience. I enjoyed your song!
