Description
I had a go at delving into playing jazz tunes on the guitar for a change and thought I should write a jazzy/rock song where the lyrics would give a sense of keeping focussed, yet real in my expectations and outlook with my music. The verses describe cautious ambition while the chorus expresses optimism and joy in the face of adversity and risk.
Bio
Chris Moorhouse Biog 3.9.23
I am from West Cumbria where, in 1970, I started to learn to play guitar and sing, through being in a gang of lads who all learned from each other by listening to records by the likes of Bert Jansch, and Ralph McTell. In sixth form, I was in a folk band on double bass/vocals and a rock band on bass guitar/lead vocals. I was getting quite good on the guitar but no one else in the bands could play bass! Later on, when I studied music and classical guitar, by day, at a teacher training college near Darlington, by night, I learned blues and rock music by ear, from borrowed records by, e.g. The Beatles, CSNY and The Stones. I learned Eagles stuff when I started gigging in Manchester and Dire Straits music in the 80’/90’s in London and always kept up gigging with my mates in Cumbria. I played a lot of pubs/clubs and a bit of t.v. and radio and busked down in the London tube and Paris Metro and famous market places in London. All along, I worked at lead vocals and harmonies and started song-writing in earnest around 1990. I formed The Lighters band with my wife Giselle in 2011 and when we moved to Holt, Norfolk, our current keyboardist Dan joined in 2016. Then, Peddars Way was formed in 2022 with Sharon and Dan and we continue to write, record and perform. I am hugely grateful to the venues and festivals who have us over to play and to the lovely audiences who buy our cd’s and love our original songs being played live .

Lyrics
Butterflies
LOOK INTO THE FUTURE, WANTING A SURPRISE
BUT THE MAGIC THAT YOU LONG FOR
ALWAYS ELUDES YOUR EYES
ALL I WANT TO ASK YOU
HAVE YOU BEEN HERE BEFORE
PARADISE’S ICONS HYPNOTISE YOU MORE
Chorus
BRUSH AGAINST A STRANGER
CLICK ONTO THEIR EYES
FEEL THE RUSH OF DANGER
IN A CLOUD OF
BUTTERFLIES FLY AWAY FLY AWAY x4
KICKIN UP A FUSS IN THE RUSTY LEAVES
KICKIN UP THE DUST RIDING DOWN
ON A RIDE TO THE SEA
STARTIN EVERY NEW DAY
WITH A SMILE ON YOUR FACE
LEAVE BEHIND THE LOSER
WIN THE HUMAN RACE Chris Moorhouse 2.2.23
