Description

This song is one about a character who appears in another ballad I wrote almost 20 years ago. In this song, what started long ago as an adventure has become the weary wondering of a man in search of home.

Bio

Steven Collins has collaborated with renowned producers Mark Howard (Bob Dylan, REM, Tom Waits, Willie Nelson) and Malcolm Burn (Emmylou Harris, The Neville Brothers). Collins has shared the stage with Daniel Lanois and performed with his band, DEADMAN, at Willie Nelson’s Fourth of July Picnic. DEADMAN’s record, Take Up Your Mat and Walk, spent 24 weeks at number one on the EuroAmericana charts, and the band served as the backing group for Garth Hudson of The Band during a tribute to Levon Helm at Sweden’s Peace and Love Festival. Six Milagros marks DEADMAN’s return to the Texas and international music scenes, launching with a full set on the main stage at Texas Monthly’s BBQ Fest 2024.
Steven has a unique approach in creating singular sonic identifiers that are easily identifiable in his work as a songwriter, recording artist and as a producer. His approach to studio installation in inspired spaces allows for him to capture rare and timeless performances.

Lyrics

Hacia La Noche

I left home a while ago
In search of fortune’s gold
Didn’t find much but violence on the road.
Under many suns and moons I toiled
I heard the Coyote moan,
The sun fell and I kept riding slow

Hacia La Noche

I rode across the Sierra Madre
I found a cantina there
A fortune teller promised me that could show me the way
But I’ve got no time for tall tales, nor for the moon and stars
I need something that will keep me warm

Hacia La Noche

Bridge:
North of the mountains where they I can believe
North of the mountains where they I can receive
But legends don’t keep a man warm at night
And legends don’t tell the truth from the lie

Hacia La Noche

Things used to be so good, they’re gettin better still…
it’s a lie every cowboy tells
But I’m bound to an endless road
One that never leads home, with no rest
And a million miles to go

Hacia La Noche
